Citrix Connection Error

I’m now in full rebuild mode after last weeks unfortunate RAID incident.

After installing Citrix Desktop and setting all my parms back up, I got

“The desktop you are trying to open is currently available only to administrators. Contact your administrator to confirm that the correct settings are in place for your client connection.”

After some digging around, I came across this Citrix posting that was exactly the problem.

I had the Citrix Connection set to “Server”, it needs to be “Published Application”.

Too bad the error message itself didn’t actually mention that. But it’s hard to find too much fault in that.

I’m a big fan of MTS, which comprises the underlying bits for Citrix. I use MTS all the time, Citrix not so much. How does the performance compare when connected (say) over the internet?

Not that I’m rich enough to afford Citrix licenses, should the answer be positive. :-)

I tellya, nothing beats being able to remote into my workstation from Timbuktu, even from a crappy T-Mobile hotspot.

Yeah, it’s pretty complex. Flexible, but still.

However, I will say Citrix over broadband beats the everlovin’ crap out of PCAnywhere over 56k (and at one point, I did a LOT of that).

Plus the 3.0 Citrix stack seemed to install smoother than previous versions (with the one exception that I didn’t set that radio button right, sigh).

  3. Ralf says:

Yayyy Citrix! My favorite way-too-complicated environment.

You can do ANYTHING with Citrix (it’s really amazing technology) and you can also BREAK anything with it. One of my best clients has a small Citrix farm and is forever coming up with unique ways to stop my software from operating.

I think the official motto of Citrix should be, "With great power comes– whoa! Did you just see that??"
